Paragliding is the lightest form of flight available to humans, making use of the energy from the wind and sun to overcome gravity and fly for many hours and over hundreds of kilometres. By foot-launching from a hill, pilots are able to climb in thermal currents up to cloud base and then embark on adventures high over the countryside and mountain ranges in the close company of eagles and vultures. The sky is your playground, and all this is possible with an aircraft that packs into a medium sized rucksack.
Welcome to the landing page for British Army Paragliding and thank you for your interest. This page is intended to enable two types of Army personnel to get into, and progress with paragliding: those who are brand new to the sport and are keen to learn, and those whom have just completed the Club Pilot (CP) qualification and can now fly solo and wish to join the AHPA. Note that the AHPA is an association (similar to a club) from where we equip, fund and coordinate paragliding activities for Army personnel (both Regular and Reservist). It is not however a school. To learn you will need to apply through the JSAT (Adventurous Training) on Defence Connect for courses taking place at JSMTC Bavaria, Germany. Please follow the links below to find out more.
- Army Personnel interested in learning to paraglide, want to know more, and apply for training courses should read the information on our Defence Connect site here.
- Newly (CP) qualified Army paragliding pilots who wish to now join the growing community of pilots and take advantage of the benefits of the AHPA should follow the directions on our Defence Connect site here.
